RAJIV AWAS YOJANA (RAY)

......Towards a Slum- Free India

 

INTRODUCTION

Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY) envisages a “Slum Free India” with inclusive and equitable cities in which every citizen has access to basic civic infrastructure, social amenities and decent shelter. RAY was launched in June 2011 in two phases; the preparatory phase for a period of two years which ended in June 2013 and implementation phase. Central Government has approved the implementation phase for period of 2013-2022. RAY envisages two-step implementation strategy i.e. preparation of Slum free City Plan of Action (SFCPoA) and preparation of projects for selected slums.

 

Progress of RAY in Rajasthan

  • In Rajasthan 18 cities have been covered under RAY these are: Jaipur, Jodhpur, Kota, Ajmer, Bikaner, Udaipur, Bharatpur, Alwar, Chittorgarh, Pratapgarh, Nimbahera, Kapasan, Choti Sadri, Badi Sadri, Fatehnagar, Begun, Bhinder and Kanod.

  • Slum Free City Plan of Action of Ajmer city has been approved by Govt. of India, draft SFCPoA of Alwar, Bharatpur & Jodhpur have been prepared and SFCPoA of Jaipur, Kota, Bikaner & Udaipur  are being prepared.

  • MoHUPA has so far sanctioned 21 projects in 16 cities under RAY, in which a total of 17236 houses/DUs will be constructed and total project cost of these projects is Rs. 968.22 Cr.

  • In order to implement RAY in the state smoothly, various committees have been formed at state & city level.

  • Experts in State Level Technical Cell and City Level Technical Cells (8 cities) have been appointed to work in close coordination with the State and ULB level to carry out various activities required for implementation of RAY.

The eight projects of Affordable Housing in Partnership scheme in Jaipur city have also been sanctioned by Central Government under PPP mode. A total of 5776 DUs will be constructed. The total project cost of these eight projects is 175.25 Cr., out of which Central share is 7.26 Cr.
